Brisbane is on the rise as the next hustle bustle city of Australia, with the Olympics set for 2032. And their cafe scene is rising too, with cute aesthetics and delicious food. We had a lovely brunch on Thursday morning at Morning After, and surprisingly, a good competitor to Sydney’s famous McMuffin from Happyfield (LINK).
Food
I give you the pièce de résistance: MaMuffin. This is a grilled wagyu and pork sausage on top of a scrambled egg, double cheese and hash brown, with hot smokey bbq sauce, squished inside a steamed English muffin for $18. It was a satisfyingly juicy bite, with a solid amount of protein to fuel our day. The savoury flavours and oil lingered on our tongues.
This was the chilli scramble eggs, with blue swimmer crab, smoked chilli oil, garlic tomato, lemon caper sour cream, angel hair chilli, bottarga on top of a crumpet for $25. The egg was creamy and succulent, but its oil was absorbed heavily by the crumpet, giving it an overall dense mouthfeel. It was delicious but not our favourite. There are a few places in Sydney and Melbourne that do this dish. Our favourite version still belongs to Humble Rays (LINK) because they use a crispy croissant.

If you’re looking for a nice spot with good food and vibes in Brisbane, Morning After is a great cafe for your morning caffeine hit. Their coffee was good too. Thanks for reading! 😁
