The Palace Station Oyster Bar

The first thing we did when we landed in Las Vegas was head straight to the Palace Station for the famous Oyster Bar. We got here at 2:30 pm on a Thursday and still ended up waiting until 4:00 pm to eat!

The reason for the long wait times is that they only have 18 seats and some people eat really, really slow so a good tip is to buy a cocktail (or three) from the bar while you wait (and maybe stare down the people before you 😂).

Food

They provided everyone a bread loaf and some cultured butter. The bread was a little hard and dry on its own, but with the chowders, it was perfect.
We ordered a dozen oysters for $25 USD. They were a little disappointing, just some buffet-standard oysters. They were fresh enough, but not super fresh.
This was New England clam chowder for $9.99 USD. It was my first chowder and it was delicious! It was a viscous and creamy milk-based soup with a strong flavour of seafood and chunky pieces of mussels. The portion was great value for the price.
This was cioppino, a hearty fisherman’s stew cooked with shrimp, crab, cod, mussels and clams for $26.99USD. This had a lighter viscosity, mimicking a broth more than a soup. It was another strong punch of seafood flavour, with bits of cooked tomatoes.
Of course we had to try their most famous palace pan roast; a thick soup of shrimp, crab, chicken, and andouille sausage. This had a similar texture to the chowder, with a delicious and aromatic tomato base and chunky pieces of seafood. Eating this with the bread whites was everything 🤤.

Service

The service was very fast. The staff were fun and entertaining. Surprisingly for the size of their restaurant, they were able to pump out so many dishes and serve so many people in such a short time.

Review

We would try this place again but we would aim for off-peak times. The 1.5 hour wait was exhausting. We also like their business model, forcing “takeaway orders” to queue up too.

Happy eating!
