It took us 2 years to finally explore the food scene in South Sydney (and we regret not doing it sooner 😭). But nestled on a corner in Penshurst is a little pizzeria with the most amazing woodfire dough. Between the two of us, we spent $100 and it took us two servings to finish it all.
Food
This antipasti was so good! This was burrata, mortadella, pistacio pesto for $18. It was so light and refreshing – we’re definitely trying this idea for our next home charcuterie board.
The best pizza of the night was definitely the hot pepperoni for $26. This had tomato, mozza, pepperoni, hot maple and pecorino. It was the perfect heavenly combination of savouriness, sauciness and creaminess on the thinnest, most perfectly-charred pizza dough we’ve ever eaten. It was not that spicy at all.
They said it was their most popular pizza. We would return for this pizza alone.

This was the funguy pizza for $26. It was truffle cream, mixed mushrooms, mozzarella and thyme. The dough was good but the toppings made it a bit of a dry mouthfeel and bite. The truffle flavour was not strong. This was our least favourite of the three – and if we were craving a truffle pizza, we would go to Pizza Bros in Erskineville (LINK).
This was Bsp’inara: tomato, confit garlic, capers, olives, and anchovy mayo for $23. We added extra anchovies for $4. This was a punch of salt and umami, better eaten fresh. By our second meal (next day), the dough became too salty with the anchovy oil that we could not finish it. The mayo made this a balanced bite compared to the mushroom pizza.
Review
We arrived an hour before closing on Friday and there were about 4-5 staff members still around. The service was quick. Our pizzas came out so fast and piping hot. Overall one of the better pizzerias in the city, the other one being Pizza Bros (LINK).
