One of the recommendations we received for Amsterdam, Netherlands was to try Indonesian food as it was one of the best cities to get an authentic taste. Aneka Rasa is a restaurant located near Central station, along the street of Warmoesstraat, and is a great place to unwind after a touristy day out.
We found this restaurant via Google, with a 4.2-star rating of 350 reviews. The restaurant setting was really ornate and cute. We were the first ones in at 6PM and found it quite calming. The waitresses were super friendly and attentive to our needs.
They have two menus: the Rice Table Aneka for €21 and the Vegetarian version for €19. In the Rice Table Aneka banquet, there were 14 variety dishes that came out, each showcasing the culinary styles of Indonesia.

- Daging rendang: beef marinated in a spicy coriander sauce
- Acar: mixed sliced vegetables in a sweet and sour dressing
- Sambal goreng buncis: green beans in a spicy coconut sauce
- Ayam kecap: chicken cooked and marinated in soy sauce
- Ayam besengek: chicken cooked with saffron and coconut milk
- Sayur lodeh: mixed vegetables in coconut milk
- Sambal goreng telor: stewed eggs in Balinese sauce
This was a classic nasi goreng, a bowl of fried rice with spice combo. It tasted a little dry, as there was not much sauce or other components to bring the dish to life. It was a great complementary dish when eaten with the sate ayam or other meat dishes.
This was the sate ayam, roasted chicken on a stick with peanut sauce. It was probably my favourite dish out of the lot, voted for its simplicity and flavours. I’m not much of a spicy fan so the peanut sauce helped cut down on the fire that had been dancing on my tongue. We loved the use of coconut milk in the braised sauce, a technique we are familiar with in Vietnamese cooking.
For dessert, they had spekkoek, a layered cake. It was very light and delicate and not overpowering in sweetness. It paired really well to the end of the banquet menu we had devoured.
