Bistro Molines

Bistro Molines is a beautiful restaurant in Hunter Valley, with a European influenced serenity. They serve French provincial dishes and are a long term winner of the Sydney Morning Herald Good Guide Chefs Hat. We had a delicious late lunch here in late February 2020.

Heads up – we had McDonalds at noon, prior to driving down to Hunter Valley. By the time we reached Bistro Molines at 3 PM, we were still carb-loaded and full, so we could not order or eat to our full potential 🥺

ENTRÉE

This was the free appetizer, of artichoke baked on a puff pastry, with cream cheese and chives. The pastry was very light and well balanced. It was delicious. Each bite was filling and savoury, not too dry.

Look at that spread! 😍

This mighty dish is the Robert’s Charcuterie Assiette for 2 people, with parma ham, duck liver pate, rabbit rillette, mortadella, terrine De Campagne, salami, pickled vegetables, olives, melon, fig jam, melba toast. There was so much going on with lots of variety to dip and spread and eat. The melon was really fresh and juicy. We actually got competitive as to who could have the last bite of the melon because it tasted so good with salami wrapped around it. I got it because I’m baby 🥰.

MAIN COURSE

This was the twice roasted duckling, with braised red cabbage with speck and peas, in pear glaze. The duck was really soft, tender and flavourful. It pulled away from the bone and melted in our mouths. The glaze added a sweet depth of flavour.

This was the crumbed zucchini flowers stuffed with herbed goats cheese, petite salade, tomato relish. To be honest, I’m not a fan of goats cheese. I don’t really know why I chose this dish, maybe because I was intrigued by the zucchini flowers or maybe because I thought it’d be a smaller dish… but Bistro Molines did a fantastic job making goats cheese tolerable to a non-fan. The zucchini was soft with a nice crunch. They were well fried, without drenching in oil. Amazing!

SERVICE

The staff was very accomodating, considering we arrived in the afternoon. We were informed we had to order an entrée and main each however after explaining our McDonald’s situation, they waived the rule.

REVIEW

We loved the interior design and the beautiful scenery. It was such a lovely view to gaze at while we ate our food.

The price was a tad pricey but considering the size, quality, and taste of our dishes, and the location of the restaurant, we thought it was worth the spend.

We would recommend this restaurant to our family and friends.

Afterward, we walked our stuffed bellies down the back to the vineyards of Bistro Molines.

Thanks for reading. Happy eating! 😚
