AL42 by Pasta Chef Rione S.Angelo

While we were out exploring Rome today, we stopped by AL42 by Pasta Chef Rione S.Angelo for a quick bite. This restaurant is a casual diner, known for delicious and affordable pasta. They have a 4.5 out of 5 ratings on TripAdvisor. This place was recommended by our friends Damo and Ally.

Food

Mick ordered the seafood pasta, gamberoni. This was Argentina shrimp with celery, carrots, onion, seed oil and fresh tomato, sprinkled with parsley.

There was a nice balance between the savoury and sweet flavours, enhanced by the virgin olive oil and tomatoes. The shrimp had an enjoyable firm initial bite with its soft flesh. The pasta tasted fresh and had a soft texture. It was a delicious meal 😋.
Yum! Surprise, surprise, I ordered a lasagne. The pasta was very soft and mushy while still holding its shape, thanks to the corn starch. Again, it tasted fresh and handmade.

The bolognese sauce was a beef and pork mix. It was well seasoned with garlic powder, pepper and salt. The sauce was not too oily. The mix of parmesan and shredded mozzarella cheese created a mildly sweet flavour to the pasta. The tomato sauce helped accentuated this sweetness.

I’m getting hungry thinking about and describing this baby 😅 Oh, take me back, I really enjoyed the lasagne here!

Service

The service was okay. The staff were kind of standoffish when we went to order. It could be racism or they were just having a bad day. I’d liked to think of the latter because the food was really good.

Review

For an affordable and delicious pasta, we would still return for another bite despite the negative vibes we felt.

This was a quick post. Thanks for reading 😊
