When the weather is negative degrees celsius outside and the freezing wind is piercing your chubby cheeks in Tromsø (Norway) then head on over to Art Cafe for hot cocoa. It’s a cute, cosy cafe located in the basement of a hotel. We found this place on Google top ratings and loved our time there today 😊.
Drinks
Look at that scrumptious hot chocolate 🍫! It was a perfect balance of cocoa and sugar and milk. The froth on top was a smooth, thick cream, not like the Woolworths store-bought whip cream we’re used to. The best way to describe it is that there was a firm frothiness to it, ya know?
Keep in mind we’re Australians with a strong coffee game, not hot cocoa. We don’t get snow down under, so this hot chocolate was absolutely delicious to our standards 😂(Hopefully it’s as good for you too).

Food
We ordered the king crab bisque, served with fresh crab and it was indeed fresh. It had a nice amount of salt. The soup was not overbearingly thick and it was a great appetizer that warmed us up.
This was their homemade beef bourguignon, served with toasted garlic bread. Compared to our reindeer stew from the previous night, this was full of flavour and so delicious. The beef was strong and thick, and in my opinion a little too salty but Mick loved it. It really complemented well with the bread.
Thirdly, we ordered the fish soup with mussels. I think Norwegians love their thick broth. The flavours were rich and the mussels were surprisingly bigger than what we were used to. We loved the seafood piece; it gave a slurp of soup a lot of texture.
Europeans love serving a basket of bread and butter to their customers (in a casual setting). We loved how smooth and soft the butter was. This was a very simple entree that gave us a warm welcome, compared to the Australian dining scene.
Review
The vibe of the cafe was chill. We went on a Wednesday at 11 AM. We didn’t have to wait, but we overheard the queue could be up to 30 minutes because they only have 7 tables inside.
For our entire meal, we paid $125 AUD. It was a little pricey for “cafe” food because Tromsø has a 25% VAT so be financially prepared if you plan to visit the arctic north.
