Bar Liberty

Bar Liberty is a wine bar located in Fitzroy, Melbourne, filled with hip decor and sharing-style snacks. We dined here with D+J, opting for a la carte, and ended up spending approx. $80 per person for more options.
Who knew flatbread could be so good? 🤤 This was wholemeal sourdough flat bread for $10. Imagine a fluffy salted and greasy bite of goodness – the kind you save for a special treat because you know you’ll get out of control if you have it too often.

We got the kefir cultured cream on top for $2. This provided a soft balance. The light, airy cream with its somewhat bland milky flavour highlighted the bread well.

There was also the option to add a piece of pig lard (pictured above) for $6 extra, but I cannot see it on the menu anymore. These were amazingly thin slices of lardo, laid evenly across the salted flat bread and surprisingly, did not melt despite the heat emitting from the dough. It was divine!!! 🤤🤤 It was the perfect chemistry of temperature and flavour.
This was the dill seed crumpet with green tomato relish for $11 each. We shared one between two. The crumpet was crispy and delightful, but overall not a memorable dish.
This was fried cauliflower (no longer on the menu Feb 2025) and whatever seasoning they used turn this into crack. It was so good.
This was pork kabanosy, cucumber and lardo skewer for $12 each.
Some delicious salted white bread.
This was cured snapper with celeriac, pickled celery and tarragon for $28. It was light and refreshing, with a good balance of umami and acidity.
This was house fresh cheese with white cucumber & kefir for $27.
We don’t remember what this was but it was fried and good lol.
Okay, the potato dumplings, bay of fires cheddar and dill for $17 was fireeee. These were the softest and chewiest balls of cheese and dough, filling our mouths with its creaminess.
We only got one main to share: beef short rib, pickled zucchini and horseradish for $41.

Service

The service was friendly and great.

Review

We want to return for the flat bread and to try the wines from their extensive list. We didn’t have any when we ate here because we were detoxing. Overall a great spot to catch up with friends.

Thanks for reading. Happy eating!
