Comfort Hotel Xpress Tromso

When visiting the Arctic North to see reindeers and capture Aurora Borealis, a luxurious hotel is not one of the priorities when money is needed elsewhere. Travelling to Tromso can get expensive, especially with a 25% VAT service fee. This is our hotel review of our last two nights at the Comfort Hotel Xpress Tromsø.

Disclosure: We want to share our hotel experiences with details and honesty since there is a lot of sponsored/fake content out there. Also, we might re-book a place and this helps us remember where we stayed 😂. Our photos were taken on our Sony RX100V and we did not use a wide-angle lens.

Location

The hotel is located 6 minutes drive from Tromsø airport and a 10 min walk to major places in town (although this is highly not recommended in cold weather 🥶). There are a few restaurants within walking distance. Unfortunately, during winter, it can be very expensive to explore Tromsø from this hotel as the best and safest way to get around is via taxi.

Room

On Wednesday, we checked in at 6pm and headed off to our reindeer camp experience immediately. Our room was located on the 4th floor and as you can see, it was designed purely for backpackers to wash up and sleep.

Bed: Very firm. It was a thin mattress layered over the bed base. The divide in the middle made it difficult to snuggle lol.

Cleanliness: 7/10. We found stains on our bedsheet. After speaking to the reception, and getting reallocated to an occupied room (that was awkward!), we got upgraded to their double room, which was located on the top floor with a beautiful view. Winning!
Space: Tiny. We had to constantly unpack and repack if we ever needed anything. Luckily we left our two big luggage in Oslo in a locker and only brought a carry on with us.

Noise: You could hear people walking along the corridor.

Air-conditioning: It was well ventilated and warm! No issues with battling the cold here.

Technology: TV showed local and American content. Wifi was decent.

Bathroom: Tiny. It reminded us of Japanese bathrooms 😅.
Extras: They only gave us towels and soap. No toothbrushes or hairbrushes.

Check-in/out process: Fast! It’s only two clicks on the computer.

Amenities: The lobby was always warm. There was a 24-hour reception. There was a button you could press that would call for a taxi, even at 5AM. They sold soups, snacks and drinks in the lobby. If you wanted hot water, you had to take the lift down to the lobby in your pj’s and get it (plus spoons and cups) yourself.

Cost: The total cost was $242 AUD for two people for two nights.

Pinnochio

This was a cute Italian restaurant located on the corner of the hotel building. It was quite delicious but also very expensive. The price for these two dishes and cider was $85 AUD because Tromsø has a 25% VAT service 😣.

If you asked us if we would stay at this hotel again, the answer is yes. However, would we pay extra for that room we were miraculously blessed with? Nahhhhh. We would rather spend the money on food.
