Duck & Waffle Local

Duck & Waffle is a famous British restaurant known for its modern European dishes. Unfortunately, we were unable to get a reservation at the popular, 40 storeys high restaurant in Heron Tower so we dined at the casual, local restaurant on Haymarket Street last month with our friend, A.

Food

This was the signature confit fried duck leg and fried duck egg served on a waffle with mustard maple syrup. It’s a very modern and different take on some commonly delicious items.

The waffle was crispy with a spongy bite, the egg yolk melted everything together and the duck leg was full of flavour. The combination reminded us of a fancy drunken meal; the type you slap together after your head starts spinning 🤣. We really liked this dish.
This was my personal favourite: gruyere, confit duck egg yolk. In simple words, mac and cheese. Creamy, soft pasta with an amazing cheese pull, mixed with the delicious, soft duck yolk. The top cooked layer added a nice, salted crunch to the bite 🤤🍳.
This was a simple roasted cauliflower, tahini, zhug. The cream was mild and the zhug added a nice kick to the buttery vegetable. It was 7 pounds. We found it expensive because we were mentally converting everything to AUD, as you do when travelling in a foreign country, so technically we paid $13 for veggies 🤔.
We loved the juiciness of these American-style barbequed duck wings. The meat was tender, drenched in sauce and ripped off the bone easily. The sauce had a nice garlic sweet flavour and it was very satisfying sucking on the bones.
They really went crazy over the duck, with this duck schnitzel, spicy slaw, mustard mayonnaise, greens, pickles. This was a £16 dish that I personally would not order again. The arrangement felt basic with nice flavouring but nothing stood out for me.
You can never go wrong with rosemary fries. The Brits know how to cook a potato. We loved the outer crispiness and the soft filling of starch.

Review

We loved the chill vibe here. Food was quite good and we all had a great time, especially when I almost burned the table down 👀😂 (I’m so accident-prone – ask me for the story).

Thank you for reading.
