When people think of Japan, they think of the big 3: Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo. What people don’t know about Fukuoka is that it was the originating city where tonkatsu ramen and the famous Ichiran was born.
This is my travel diary of today’s adventure.

Our Adventure
Yesterday I flew from Ho Chi Minh City to Taipei for a 2-hour stopover and then arrived in Japan at 11 AM this morning. I caught a taxi to Hakata Sunlight Hotel Hinoohgi (LINK) where the reception was very nice to help me with planning my day 😚.
Originally I wanted to visit Kawachi Wisteria Garden in Kitakyushu but that would’ve been a 6-hour trip that I did not have the time and energy for. Instead, I headed out to do some monetary damage at Canal City Hakata, which is a massive shopping centre with water shows and greenery.
I went to eat at the originating store of Ichiran and had my first Japanese meal 😍🍜.
If you’re not familiar with Ichiran, it is a famous ramen store located throughout Japan that allows customers to customize their meal. They’re also one of the first stores to put walls up between customers, so you can eat alone and not feel weird about it.

Outside of the Canal City Hakata was a garden, filled with sakura and other flowers. This was my first time catching a glimpse of the cherry blossom season. Unfortunately, I was a week behind the blooming week in Fukuoka so a lot of the trees were shedding at this point 😔.
Afterwards, I went to explore Fukuoka Castle Ruins (LINK).
Then I made my way to Ohori Park (LINK). The weather was quite chilly and I was a little sleep deprived so I didn’t stay out too long.
I had some 7-eleven food for dinner because I missed the egg sandwiches 😂
Overall, it was a tranquil, short trip. I really enjoyed the vibe of the city. Next time I would definitely bring Mick so we can eat the best tonkatsu ramen in all of Japan 🍜😆.
Tomorrow I’m hopping on to a shinkansen to Hiroshima (LINK).
