Hiroshima, Japan 2019

Hiroshima is a famous city in Japan, known for the Itsukushima shrine (above), Miyajima island, the Peace Memorial Park and the castle. In the culinary world, Hiroshima specializes in okonomiyaki and oysters. Many people do day trips from Osaka or Kyoto. We did one of these trips in 2017 (LINK).

I’m travelling alone in Japan right now and this is my travel diary of Hiroshima 😙

Our Adventure

I caught the shinkansen from Fukuoka yesterday (LINK) and arrived around noon in Hiroshima. I love the convenience of the bullet train 😆. My hotel was the Vessel Inn Hiroshima Ekimae (LINK).
The first thing I did was head out to see the beautiful Hiroshima castle (LINK).
I went to the Peace Memorial Park and Atomical Bomb Dome next (LINK). I didn’t want to enter the Hiroshima Memorial Museum again because we went in 2017 and I remember crying a bit after that visit 🥺.
I went back to Nagataya for the famous oyster okonomiyaki. It was just as good as I remembered 🤤 (LINK).
Today I’ve checked out already and went to the train station. There was a small don restaurant where I ordered oysters with rice. The oysters were huge and “meaty” and very savoury, soaked in a soy-based sauce.
I had an hour to kill before my shinkansen arrived so I went to this random coffee shop to sit. The rule in Japan is if you’re going to sit in a store, you must purchase one item from the store. This was a cream cake. It was very fluffy and not overly sweet. I also got a bento box for my ride to Okayama.

Thanks for reading 😁
