This monkey park is home to 120 Japanese macaque monkeys. It is located in Kyoto, in the Arashiyama district. The entrance fee is Β₯550. The park is open from 9 AM to 4 PM every day.
We’ve visited twice, in 2017 and today. The only thing we’ve noticed during our second visit was that we’re a lot fitter than before because the “hike” going up burned our thighs the first time we did it π€£.

The biggest rule to follow is to not look at the monkeys directly in the face and to not be too close with the camera, as these snow monkeys are wild creatures and are known to attack if they feel threatened.
Once we entered, there was a small corner with two vending machines for resting. We recommend buying a drink because the next 15 minutes may be brutal to those who do not work out often, speaking from our 2017 experience π The walk comprised of both 45Β° angled slopes and steps. It felt like doing StairMaster on level 5.

At the top of the mountain was this yellow-tinged scene with a house, dirt everywhere and this little “onsen” where the monkeys liked to wash up.
One of the perks of hiking this mountain is this beautiful view of Kyoto π.
Visitors were only allowed to feed the monkeys from inside the house. It cost Β₯100 to get a handful of fruits.
These monkeys are savage. They ripped the fruits from our hands from behind the cage with force. They also attacked each other out of greed, especially the big ones.

It was a really fun, family-friendly experience. We took our parents last year and they loved the exercise. We recommend this activity for anyone visiting Kyoto. It can also be a great day trip activity.
