Julius Pizzeria

Looking for a great restaurant for date night? Or a intimate setting to catch up with friends and dish out secrets? Julius Pizzeria in Brisbane has you covered. We dined here mid December on a Wednesday around 4pm, but were quite surprised to find this grand ambient restaurant half-full. This is an Italian restaurant with an in depth menu of pizzas, pastas and wines.

Food

We started off with their complimentary sourdough bread, olive oil, butter. We might have been starving from our touristy adventures, or drunk off our day-drinking wines and beers, but ooft this dough was good 🔥 . Fluffy white centres with a crunchy crust; saturated in appetizing olive oil, rosemary and butter. We ended up with three servings (on the house).
We shared the prosciutto pizza for $24. This was tomato, mozzarella, oregano, and thinly sliced prosciutto di parma. It was a perfect and delicious pizza. Thin base, with sweet tomato sauces and salty pork, melted together by the oozing cheese, topped with a perfectly crispy and charred crust.
The siciliana for $23.50 was also a delicious pizza. This was tomatoes, mozzarella, bocconcini, anchovies, capers, olives, and oregano. Honestly, you could order any pizza on the menu and the consistency of the base and crust would turn out the same – just pick your favourite toppings 😆.
We almost went to heaven for the deliciousness of this pappardelle al ragu d’Anatra for $28.50. Flat ribbon pasta cooked with duck and tomato ragu – YUM! The pasta was a soft al dente. The sauce was savoury, dripping and loose, clinging on to the pasta with all its might to heighten the flavours. It was such a simple and delicious dish 😍.
Finally we shared a seafood pasta for approx $26.50. I couldn’t find this item on the menu and I was silly not to take a photo but trust my description – this was simple and good. There was enough seasoning to enhance the seafood while also bringing out the umami from the protein and pasta. It didn’t have any cheese, which was a good thing so that the spotlight was on the crustaceans. Overall it was a balance of sweetness and umami.

Service

The service was good. They were accommodating to our walk in and pram. The service was fast, cracked jokes and did a great job.

Review

I wished we had bigger stomachs to order more food or had dined during their peak hour – to see how they managed their kitchen. Alas, this was still an exceptionally good meal and we enjoyed our time at Julius.

Thank you for reading. Happy eating! 😘
