Map Tofu is a popular Sichuan spicy dish. It’s really easy to cook that even a #Shef can do it. Mick left me in charge of dinner one night so here is my first attempt 😆
Shopping

Note: This recipe is for 2 boxes. Cut all quantities in half if you’re making 1 box.
From the grocery store/butcher:
- 2 boxes of mapo tofu (extra spicy because there’s a no spice option)
- Green onions
- 0.5 kg minced pork
- Tofu
From your cupboard:
- 0.5 tbsp salt and pepper
- 1 tbsp chicken powder
- 1 tbsp fish sauce
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 6 cloves of garlic
- 1-2 tbsp oyster sauce
- Rice
Prepping

Obviously washed and cooked rice with the good old trustworthy Tiger 🐯.

I sliced my tofu into small pieces.

I mixed the spices and sauces (except oyster sauce) into the minced pork with gloved hands.
Cooking

This was really easy and I was very proud of it so that’s why I’m posting it 🤣
- Oiled up the wok
- Sautéed the garlic
- Added the minced pork
- Once brown, I added the 2 mapo tofu boxes
- Added the oyster sauce
- Stirred thoroughly
- Added the tofu
Serving

Scooped a spoon of fluffy white rice in a bowl and layered the mapo tofu. Violà! Easy peasy cooking.
The ‘extra spicy’ box was VERY SPICY. I died. I literally choked and cried and felt the fire in my soul 😭 I had 2 scoops of rice for every spoon of mapo tofu to counteract the chilliness. If your tolerance is low, I highly recommend the ‘no chilli’ or ‘mild’ option. Mick added chilli because he enjoys being closer to hell.
