Nagataya is an okonomiyaki restaurant located in Hiroshima, Japan. We’ve eaten here twice, once in 2017 and again today. One of the specialities of this city is their oysters and oyster okonomiyaki.
Okonomiyaki is a Japanese savoury pancake with a variety of ingredients in a wheat-flour-based batter. Most restaurants will let patrons cook their own okonomiyaki however at Nagataya, we get to relax and watch the chefs do their magic.

I got a seat at the chef’s table and it was so mesmerizing watching the staff make all the okonomiyaki 😍.
The oyster okonomiyaki was really good 🤤 The oysters were huge with savoury oceanic juices bursting from within after being steamed and cooked. The batter was crispy and slightly dry, drenched in the sweet okonomiyaki sauce. The one with the egg yolk was more creamy in texture.
To be honest, it all tasted very similar with the steamed cabbage, green onions and yakisoba noodles. It was like eating a healthy pancake.

Review
Thanks for reading this basic review 😛. We recommend trying this restaurant if you’re ever in Hiroshima. We need to broaden our horizon so we’re not returning anytime soon.
Happy eating!
