Pie Thief is a small store located in Melbourne, known for its weekly creative exploration of new flavours stuffed inside a flakey pie. I was seeing it all over Instagram for the whole month leading up to our trip so I was beyond excited to eat here. The outcome: the pies were good and the trip was worth it 😁.
I went to Pie Thief with one goal in mind, this lasagne pie for $9. Wowzer, definitely a game-changer. The pie itself was flakey and soft. The stuffing had 2 layers of lasagne sheets followed by a generous amount of beef chunks, seasoned tomato sauce and cheese. It was oozing in our mouths. The lasagne was more of a tomato-based than a beef-based taste but still delicious in pie form. I’d come back for this baby.
This steak & cheese pie for $8 oozed with strong flavourful beef gravy, tender beef chunks, and a combination of mozzarella and parmesan cheese. I enjoyed this one a bit more because of the plentiful seasoning of pepper and salt. It hit the mark, tasting like a fineeeeeee steak 👌🏻. Again, the pastry was soft and flakey, pairing well with the gravy-like texture inside.
We got the special Jamaican Jerk Chicken pie: a mouthful of Caribbean flavours. It was advertised as a spicy boii but was very tolerable and enjoyable on the palate. The cinnamon, allspice and thyme really came through the toasted chicken pieces. The bite started off strong and spicy, rounding off with a touch of bitterness from the vinegar.
I forgot to take a photo but I’m referring to the bottom left pie.
This big thief burger pie was one of the most liked out of all the ones we tried. They used braised beef cheek so it had this fatty layer of deliciousness melted into the American cheese and diced sour pickles. It almost tasted like a cheeseburger and Big Mac had a baby in pie form. It was also adorable they added the toasted sesame seeds on top.
The pastry was nice and flakey on the lid, soft and warm on the bottom. Highly recommend this staple pie that is always on the menu.

We loved the dedication of the team to coming up with new flavours every week. In a single year they created 200 flavours 😯👏🏻 We would love to stop by again for their next special of the week.
