Roast Beef Ono is a popular restaurant in Akihabara in Tokyo, committed to serving the most luxurious and delicious roast beef in Japan. In 2018 their fame blew up, thanks to a viral Facebook video ‘volcano beef’, but with 4.7 out of 5 stars from 5000 reviews on TripAdvisor, they have always been popular among tourists and locals.
I’ve eaten this twice (2019 and 2020) and it has been consistent in taste. Mick and Aaron got to devour this beautiful bowl last week! π

The restaurant in Akihabara is very small, with only about 20 seats. It is located on the basement floor and the space is very cramped. We have to go down two flight of stairs to get to the restaurant. I think the toilet was a single cubicle along the stairs but none of us used this facility πΆ.
Once we were seated, they gave us baskets for our belongings to push underneath our tables. We were given introduction and feedback cards too. The staff were very animated and excited to serve us this delicious bowl.

Look at the presentation!! πππ
βThe roasted beef had been cooking for 6 hours on the slow roast, giving it that odd raw pink colour. Don’t be scared though, the meat was not raw. Each piece of beef was perfectly cooked, thin and tender. They wrapped the beef in a “volcano” shape and cracked an onsen egg on top, creating that dynamic effect. This was friggin’ delicious, especially when eaten with the provided butter.

The layer of rice underneath was fluffy and soft. The added mayonnaise was rich and decadent. It actually made the bite very fattening and towards the end, the bowl did become too much to finish.
The sauce was a sweet onion gravy, elevating the savouriness of the beef and cutting through the richness of the mayonnaise. It helped balance the bite. We loved the onsen egg! π€€ It was creamy and gooey with its peppery touch.

Overall, the bowl was delicious and worth the trip. For Β₯880 the medium bowl was more than enough for us to leave Akihabara in a food coma.
