Shinagawa Tobu Hotel

One of the most difficult tasks was booking a hotel in central Tokyo for a large group of travellers that were both easily accessible and affordable. Luckily I found Shinagawa Tobu on bookings.com.

Disclosure: We want to share our hotel experiences with details and honesty since there is a lot of sponsored/fake content out there. Also, we might re-book a place and this helps us remember where we stayed 😂. Our photos were taken on our Sony RX100V and we did not use a wide-angle lens.

Location

The hotel was located about a 5-minute walk from Shinagawa station (major hub). This was beneficial because it meant we didn’t have to change stations/platforms to use the local trains, JR lines and the Shinkansen train. It might not seem like a big deal with changing trains on the most efficient train system in the world but when you’re travelling with large suitcases during peak hour or in a large group, it made all the difference.

Room

Bed: The mattress was firm with a slight softness. It was ideal for back sleepers. My parents had a room and double bed to themselves, and my siblings and I booked a 3-single-bed room.

Cleanliness: Everything was very tidy and clean, even throughout our stay. There was a 2-day-stay housecleaning service.

Space: There was barely any space to unpack our luggages so grabbing items out and rearranging was a bit annoying, especially with 3 to 5 large luggages occupying the space.

Noise: It was fairly minimal, except for the occasional muffles in the early morning.

Air-conditioning: The rooms felt stuffy if we were in there for too long so the air-conditioning helped filter the room. The sound was a constant low hum that drowned out as white noise.

Technology: TV had anime channels. Wifi was decent. Lighting in the bathroom was poor so we put our makeup on using the natural light through the window.
Bathroom: It was the usual tiny Japanese bathroom. I didn’t mind it because I’ve experienced a lot worse in 2017 but this particular bathroom was a lot smaller than other hotels. My family had a hard time adjusting to space.

Extras: The service was great. The staff were very friendly and understanding when I explained I was staying in one room by myself the first night, and my family were arriving the day after. Checking in/out went very smoothly.

Amenities: There was a vending machine and a sitting area at reception but there was nothing else we used during our stay.

Thanks for reading 😄
