We risked our lives for this taco but when they are the best tacos in all of Los Angeles, you know it’s worth it.
Sonoratown is located in downtown LA, basically on the outskirt of skid row. And if you are naive like me, now you know skid row is the place NOT to be in. There were so many walking zombies (drugged users), angry men and homelessness (tents and carts) everywhere. We walked through skid row because our hotel was located on the other side and it was a 15 minute walk vs a 3 minute uber – I thought we should get some culture 😬😬😬.

We ordered a caramelo for $7.50USD. It was friggin’ delicious! It w a a soft and stretchy super-sized tortilla filled to the brim with tender meats, pinto beans, chunky guacamole, shredded cabbage and potent chiltepin chiles. The taco was finished on the grill, giving it this smokey and savoury taste.
We also got a m agua – horchata. This is a plant-based drink made from sweetened tiger nuts. It was our first time trying it and oh boy, why did we not order this earlier? It was the perfect balance to the spicy salsa and it really helped settle our stomachs.
