We stumbled into this corner shop when we were waiting for our dinner reservation in Newtow on Friday night… and a good thing we did because these tacos were amazing! 🤤
Food
This was the most interesting of the two, the smokey soy chicken taco for $12.90. It was short-grain white rice, grilled free-range chicken, caramelized chilli sauce, Kewpie mayonnaise, jalapenos, and smoked soy.
It tasted like a true fusion between Japanese and Mexican. The chicken was tender and sweet, enhanced by the chilli kick. The seaweed taco was crunchy and salty. And the garnishes added a refreshing and sour (jalapenos) taste to the bite.

The miso baked salmon taco for $12.90 was my favourite. It had white rice, miso baked salmon, Japanese Kewpie mayonnaise, pickled cucumber, and caramelised chilli sauce.
It was a lot sweeter, think miso paste or caramelized sweetness, with a burst of umami flavour. The salmon was even more tender, with effortless chewing, and this contrasted nicely with the oceanic salt and crunchiness of the seaweed taco. The rice portion was a tad too much, but the rice was fat and fluffy.

Review
We loved the unique take on two popular cultures. It was a great pre-dinner snack, filling us up enough so that we weren’t hangry for the next hour until our dinner reservation. They were very popular, with seats disappearing the moment they were vacant.
